Good afternoon Palcouk. The TARGUS PACMB010U EXTERNAL DVD ROM user guide doesn't list WIN7 as a required/compatible O/S. Only Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, Microsoft Windows 2000 / XP. Win 7 compatability Center lists this h/w device as being compatible with WIN7.

If so why Windows wasn't able to find the drivers when plugged to USB port which by the way I have plugged in a Silver River DUO enclosure (for 3.5' IDE and SATA HDD) to the USB port and it recognized it without any problems. SO the problem is NOT the USB port. What are my options here? NO DRIVERS NEEDED - I had the same problem.

FIRST, be sure both cables are connected to USB ports (you may want to check these to see if they work ok); 1 is to power your unit & the other to communicate with your PC. NEXT, when booting up, run Setup (usually F2), in BIOS, go to BOOT tab; you should see a list of devices: HD (hard drive) 1st, CD-rom 2nd, Removeable Media 3rd & maybe more. BE SURE that the 2nd &/or 3rd are ENABLED. I had my cables plugged into USB ports before booting up but it may not matter. Then click on MY COMPUTER & you'll see the drive!
